Medical Home Plus (MHP) is a nonprofit founded in 2003 with the mission of connecting parents and guardians to the unique care and services required for the health and happiness of their special needs children. While they don’t provide any actual care, they use national and community grants, along with generous donations, to create a network of resources for parents. When Scott Dickens was asked to join their Board of Directors, he knew that we could leverage the creativity of Rocket Pop to enhance and expand MHP’s fundraising efforts.

GOALS

Raising a special needs child requires a specialized set of tools for addressing the emotional and educational support of the child. As part of MHP’s mission, they provide that one-on-one support and advocacy without thought to a family’s financial situation. In addition to limited national and local grants, they host a signature annual fundraising event – Uncork Hope – that brings friends and advocates together for an evening of drinks, food, entertainment, and fundraising to further MHP’s vision. We brought the components of Uncork Hope – programs, tickets, email campaigns, social media – under a unified umbrella to create an MHP “brand” for this signature event.

STRATEGY

Medical Home Plus is well known to the families that they serve. But MHP offers those services for free, and so relies heavily on various government grants to accomplish their mission. A challenge for MHP has been attracting the movers and shakers that can propel a nonprofit to the next level of sustainability. We tackled their signature event – Uncork Hope – with an eye-catching program that made the event a place that those would-be philanthropists would want to be involved. Concise copy clearly explained the MHP mission, with numerous blurbs and bullets highlighting the costs for services and the number of families served. We were able to leverage our outside relationships with those of MHP to make certain that the food, drink, entertainment, and prizes associated with Uncork Hope would be memorable enough to encourage multi-year participation. We brought the components of Uncork Hope – programs, tickets, email campaigns, social media – under a unified umbrella to create an MHP “brand” for this signature event. We had to pivot our marketing efforts in 2020 to accommodate the impact of COVID19 so that MHP could meet their fundraising goals with a virtual audience rather than in person. 2020’s “virtual” Uncork Hope was another success.
